What Is A Time For Play?
Frequently Asked Questions
What is unique about the course?
Our course is an intentional review of all of the core and historically significant Play Therapy theories. We introduce clinicians to the use of different play therapy approaches so they have a wealth of knowledge and skills that they can adjust to meet the developmental needs of clients of any age and stage. Rather than be siloed or pigeonholed into one style of Play Therapy, clinicians get exposure to a diverse range of approaches which they may independently study further. This format comes from my own experience doing Play Therapy for more than a decade and recognizes that no one theory or approach is suitable for all clients and presenting problems. While Play Therapy always works, the type of Play Therapy practiced must be adapted to fit the client’s needs.
What is a Season Pass v. Normal Registration?
The season Pass is for clinicians who are committed to becoming a Registered Play Therapist. It is an automatic registration to all 20 of the trainings scheduled in a season plus the opportunity to complete 30 hours of independent, non-contact continuing education courses. The pass is the fastest and most economical way to obtain the minimum 150 hours of Play Therapy CE required by APT to become a Registered Play Therapist.
Can I register for just one training?
Yes, A Time for Play is a series of Play Therapy Continuing Education programs. Each topic and training event stands alone, but together they are designed to give clinicians a comprehensive understanding of approaches to Play Therapy. Knowledge of Play Therapy is helpful but not necessary to participate in trainings. These events are intended for licensed mental health professionals and continuing education hours may apply towards maintenance of a mental health license.
Do you offer scholarships?
A Time for Play recognizes that historic inequities and systemic bias have limited the opportunities for BIPOC persons to attain the Registered Play Therapist credential. The primary aim of this scholarship is to diversify the Play Therapy profession and expand the benefits of Play Therapy to BIPOC clients and families. CLICK HERE for scholarship details
Do you offer Discounts for Non-Profits?
A Time for Play is proud to offer a 10% discount to local non-profit organizations that sponsor one or more employees to receive a Season Pass to the A Time for Play | Play Therapy Instruction Series. CLICK HERE for scholarship details
So does your program make me a Play Therapist?
No, A Time for Play itself does not offer any credential or certification. The Association for Play Therapy approves applications and distributes the RPT (Registered Play Therapist) SB-RPT, and RPT-S designation.
While all of our trainings count towards the CE requirement to attain the credential, participants must independently gain Play Therapy Experience and Play Therapy Supervision; those are not offered as part of our program.
If participants attain the required hours of experience and supervision concurrently while attending a season of trainings, they will be well on their way to submitting their credential application to APT. We encourage interested participants to go to APT’s website and review the full credentialing requirements.
CLICK HERE for more information about obtaining the credential.
What is the value of becoming an RPT?
The RPT credential signals to other professionals, the community and potential clients that you have expertise in Play Therapy and working with children and adolescents. I liken it to the difference between a general practice doctor versus a pediatrician. An RPT has advanced knowledge of children’s development, attachment, the powers of play, and pediatric mental health diagnosis and conditions.
How can I keep track of my progress on my Play Therapy journey?
We have created an Excel spreadsheet specifically designed to track hours as you progress along your Play Therapy journey. Feel free to download our free A Time for Play Hours Tracking Log by CLICKING HERE
